The short version: Money Tracker collects no data about you. Everything you import stays on your Mac. The app has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no third-party services.
Money Tracker is a macOS application developed by Simpleutils.com, an independent developer. This policy describes how the app handles your information.
None. Money Tracker does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. There is no account to create, no sign-in, and no server component. The developer has no access to anything you do in the app.
When you import bank statement files (PDF or CSV), the app extracts the transactions in them and stores the results in a local database on your Mac, in your user Library folder (~/Library/Application Support/com.hfuerte.moneytracker/). This includes transaction dates, descriptions, amounts, the categories assigned to them, and the statement files' parsed summary figures. Your preferences (settings, budgets, categorization rules) are stored locally as well.
This data never leaves your Mac. It is not synced, uploaded, or backed up to any remote service by the app. Local backup snapshots the app creates are stored in the same folder on your Mac.
Deleting the app's data folder (or using the app's own delete functions) permanently removes this data. If you use Apple's or your own backup tools (e.g. Time Machine), copies may exist in those backups under your control.
Money Tracker never connects to your bank and never asks for bank credentials. It only reads statement files that you explicitly choose to import.
The app makes no internet connections. The optional "Ask" feature can use a large-language model that you run yourself, locally on your Mac, via the third-party open-source tool Ollama (at a local address such as localhost:11434). That traffic stays on your machine. Even locally, the model is only sent your question and the app's category and month names — never transaction descriptions, amounts, or balances. If Ollama is not installed, every other feature of the app works normally.
The app contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no tracking of any kind, first- or third-party.
The optional app lock uses Apple's built-in LocalAuthentication framework (Touch ID, Apple Watch, or your Mac login password). The app never sees or stores your password or biometric data — that is handled entirely by macOS.
The app does not collect data from anyone, including children, and is not directed at children.
If the app's data practices ever change, this policy will be updated here with a new "Last updated" date before the change ships.
